My life in London was horrible. The houses were small, dirty and damp. I hated sharing a bath with my family members. Especially since I was the youngest, meaning I had to bathe in everyone else's dirty water. We had to share a toilet with lots of other families and it was only emptied once a week. They smelled horrible and it made me feel sick every time I had to use them. Sicknesses were spread so easily and I was always on edge because I didn't want to get any of the major sicknesses.
We finally decided to leave our horrible lives in London behind. I was so excited but so nervous. Nobody knew what it would be like in New Zealand. I was happy we were going to start fresh and hopefully have a better life. Hopefully with less of a chance to catch diseases.
The journey on the ship was awful. It was damp and cramped. The boat rocked like crazy and it made me feel really sick. The animals were killed on board so we all had fresh meat. I didn't like meat so I found this horrid. Since there wasn't much room to move it gave diseases a chance to spread fast. Nobody looked very happy and I'm not surprised because I wasn't happy either.
When we arrived after the long journey, all I could do was take a huge sigh of relief. Although I was nervous that I may have caught a disease during the trip, I was just happy to have fresh air. There weren't many people on this island and there was so much greenery. It was so different in New Zealand, Instead of how we brought stuff in London, you could just find someone who has what you need and buy it off them. It didn't take long to forget my life back in London and I am so glad we made the decision to leave.
