City Mission

Friday 24th  November 2017

Today we had a lady from city mission to talk to us about homelessness. She told us that they have three shelters, a woman shelter, a men shelter and a family shelter. The reason there are so many shelters is because if there's a single mother or father with children a men's/woman's shelter wouldn't be ideal. City mission is a volunteer group. Around Christmas time they have lines out the door for the Christmas packs. The Christmas packs include lots of food for families. There's a lot of donations given to the group around Christmas time.

Topic chosen: Homelessness

Description: The topic we have chosen is homelessness. Around 41,000 people in new Zealand are homeless and living on the streets in unsafe areas. People have no money and food to help them survive. Then some people are rich and can buy whatever they want.

Ideas to fix the problem: I think we should make more homeless shelters and Raise money for the homeless to buy them food and shelter so they can stay safe and warm.

i want majority of the homeless to have shelter and be able to pay medical bills to get them back up and be supported through the whole thing of finding food.

I think this is a good book for my age because it has lots of information and facts.

Formal and Informal rules

School:

Formal: Wear correct uniform, No jewelry  to be worn and no littering. 
Informal: No chewing gum and don't leave school grounds before the end of day bell. 

Friends: 

Formal: Not sure. 
Informal: don't talk about other people behind their backs and don't start rumors.

Family:

Formal: respect everyone.
Informal: finish all jobs

Formal: respect people on the street, don't litter and no graffiti.

A jingle is a small piece of music that is catchy and explains a small amount of information about the product or products.

what makes a good jingle?

A good jingle will say something about the product/products and will be catchy to draw the buyers in. You should be able to hear the lyrics clearly.

Technology - Balancing Toy

How to make a Balancing toy

Base

Materials:

 Drill, Scribe ,ruler , center punch , counter sink, steel 100 mm- 20 mm- 5 mm, Hack saw for metal, File, Sand paper, Engineers Blue, Brazing rod, welding tool, square and steel rods 80 mm-  6 mm long 

Steps for your  Base:
Get your Steel bar and cut it to 100 mm long, it should be 5 mm thick and 20 mm wide. 
Once you have cut it you have to file it so that the engineers blue will stick to it. 
File it and sand it so that it is even and slightly mirrored (use a square to test this.)



Now put 5 drops of engineers blue on one side of your work and spread evenly then let dry. (this will help mark our your work.)



To mark your holes go in 10 mm from the end,  both sides and in the middle. 
Join all these together and you should have a straight line running straight through your piece of steel. Now 10 mm in from both ends mark one hole. (on each end, this will be the holes to drill your work to a piece of wood at the end.) Now mark another 10 mm from the dots you just created (they will be 20 mm in from the end.) 
Now to double check your work re-measure them and re-center if you need to.You now need to drill all your your on all 4 holes. Now go to a counter sink your work on one side counter-sink the two outer sides and on the other side do the two inner ones. Now clean up your work and get two steel rods 80 mm long   6 mm wide.Then these are going to be welded into the middles holes with the countersink facing up with the holes coming out the bottom so the poles have the counter sinked side where the welding can go. Now you need to weld your work. once welded clean it up and you have completed the base!

I feel like I did well in all the categories. I didn't do as well in sprints as I hoped
